About

I will address some of the common mistakes made when people first get chicken with the hope that you don’t have to learn the hard way and deal with the heartbreak and guilt owners face because “they just didn’t know” and providing information so that you can give your “fluffy bums” aka your chickens the best care you can.

This is a hands on workshop in which participants will be handling my Chickens which is why it is limited to 6 places.   The workshop will cover keeping Chickens at home as either pets, egg layers, and or for meat.

There will be a quick discussion only on how to cull sick/injured birds, and processing for meat, but not “a hands on how to”.

I will cover the following topics:

  • Which are best for you? Chicks, Pullets, Point of Lay and Hens
  • What do all these terms mean?
  • Heritage breeds v’s Commercial Layers
  • Egg Laying – How many eggs do you need?
  • Housing
  • Feeding
  • Prevention of Health Issues
  • Health Issues
  • First Aid Kit
  • Quarantine
  • Dealing with Sick Bird (Culling)
  • Processing for Meat
  • Breeding
  • Incubating

Please wear enclosed shoes. Bring note pad and pen, however notes will be provided.

Format is a 2 hour class, with the option to stay for tea and coffee afterwards with a wonder around the garden.

Workshop will go ahead as long as there is a minimum of 2 paid tickets sold. If the minimum isn’t reach 7 days prior to the event, than the event will be cancelled and monies will be refunded.

Refunds are available up to 7 days prior to event, after that no refunds available, however you are able to gift your spot to a friend. Just advise me of the person who is taking your place by texting me their name and mobile number.

Tickets will be available through EVENTBRITE which accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.  Please message me with your mobile number once you have paid through Eventbrite. This is so I can message you the actual address in Girrawheen as it’s not released until 48 hours prior to event, due to it being a private residence.
